Celebrate the spirit of Texas with a train ride at the Texas State Railroad.
- Pineywoods Steam Excursions
Roundtrip excursions with one of our historic steam engines departs from the Rusk depot at 11am and returns at 3:30pm. The trip is 1 ½ hours each way with a 1 ½ hour lunch layover at the Palestine depot for a total 4 ½ hour experience.Ticket includes a box lunch. Beer, wine, beverages and snacks are available for purchase in the concession car.
- Summer Evening Excursions
Round Trip Steam excursion departs from the Rusk depot at 4pm and returns at 6:30pm. This trip is one hour to the Jarvis Wye with a short stretch while the engine turns and The Lone Ranger® rescues passengers from Outlaw Cowboys! Passengers hear stories of The Lone Ranger and songs of Texas on the hour return to the Rusk depot. Ticket includes a box supper created by Bon Appétit Cafe, served by our Lone Star attendants. Beer, wine, beverages and snacks are available for purchase in the concession car.
- Special Events
Special events are held throughout the year. Our licensed events include The Polar Express™ Train Ride, Dinosaur Train™ Peanuts™ - The Valentine Express, Peanuts™ - The Easter Beagle Express, Peanuts™ - The Pumpkin Patch Express, & RailFest. | Engine Cab Ride | |||

Learn first-hand what it is like to take a ride in our steam engine! It is an amazing experience to ride with the engineer & fireman! Cab riders must be 18 years or older and are required to wear closed-toed shoes. You will receive goggles, gloves, and ear plugs for your one-way journey. Ticket includes lunch and return trip in premium or standard seating with your friends or family.

Chicken Salad – Our own signature salad/sandwich. Fresh, East Texas farm-raised chickens have been roasted and combined with crushed pineapple, red grapes and locally grown East Texas pecans. Served on a buttery croissant, baked fresh at Bon Appétit. Dinner is complemented with a fresh fruit salad and a chocolate chunk cookie. |
Pimento Cheese – Our chef’s secret recipe for the best pimento cheese ever, with just the right hint of jalapeno! Served on thick marble rye bread, a delightful swirl of pumpernickel and rye. This Deep East Texas comfort food is complemented with a fresh fruit salad and a chocolate chunk cookie. |
Deli Sandwich – Freshly baked white or wheat bolillo rolls, loaded with ham, turkey, provolone and American cheese. Locally grown tomatoes and fresh leaf lettuce complete this hearty sandwich. Dinner is complemented with a fresh fruit salad and a chocolate chunk cookie. |
TSRR Quiche – Created especially for TSRR, this quiche is full of fresh, local East Texas garden vegetables and farm-fresh eggs, paired with diced ham, cheese and asparagus in a freshly-baked pie shell. Served with romaine, mandarin orange salad, full of fresh romaine hearts, sweet mandarin oranges, kiwi and toasted almonds, with a wonderful poppyseed dressing, an individual apple pie, and a freshly baked roll. |
PB&J – For the kids….or the young at heart….peanut butter and jelly! Made with creamy peanut butter, grape jelly (strawberry on request) on potato bread. Served with potato chips, a fruit cup, Fruit Roll-up, chocolate chunk cookie and a pickle. |

Texas State Railroad Season Pass is now available! Visit the Texas State Railroad as much as you want at a great discount!
A Season pass is valid for one year from the date of purchase on advanced reservations on any steam train excursion in coach or open air seating, based on availability.
The season pass is valid on the following excursions: Pineywoods Steam Excursion, Summer Evening Steam Excursion, and Maydelle Turntable Special Steam Excursion . A season pass is not valid on dinner trains, photo excursions, railfest, licensed special events, parking or lunches. The cost of a season pass is a regular priced excursion or special event ticket (excluding Day Out With Thomas™) plus $25 for ages 3 & over.
We added a new premium service for 2011! Season pass holders can upgrade to the Lone Star Class Adult Only or Family Car! Upgrades are $23.00 for Adults & $7.00 for Children per train ride.

Senior Citizen Discount - 10% Discount for ages 65 and over
Local Appreciation - Residents who live in Anderson, Angelina, Cherokee, Freestone, Henderson, Houston, Leon, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Rusk, & Smith Counties will recieve $20 off any Lone Star Class or Standard Class ticket. August 2011- September 2011 for Summer Evening Steam Excursions and Pineywoods Steam Excursions. ID with proof of address will be required.
Military Discount* - FREE train ride for Active military (with identification). 10% discount for Veterans.
Texas Birthdays* - During the week of your birthday, you can ride the train for FREE – and be sure to invite friends and family to join in your celebration.
*Free train rides are in the Standard Class, upgrades to Lone Star Class are availble for a small fee.
