The Texas State Railroad welcomes groups of all types and sizes! We offer a unique experience for churches, tour groups, scouts, family or class reunions, organizations, school groups….you name it! Have a group of 20 or more? Want the train to yourself? Want to get married on the train? Let our reservation department fulfill your group request.
If your specific group is not listed here or if you have specific questions or special needs, please be sure to contact our reservation office by phone or email and we will be happy to help you organize the perfect group outing.
Groups of 20 or More
Groups of 20 or more paying passengers who purchase their tickets as a group are eligible to receive a 10% off discount of the standard ticket price for a selected ride.
Scouts
Scout groups are offered special discounts so your troop can experience
history first hand. Our scout excursions include not only a trip on an historic
railroad, but also the opportunity to earn merit badges as they learn about
history, transportation, and nature. Why not bring your scout group to
the Texas State Railroad where you can camp and ride an historic train in
the piney woods of East Texas?
Other options available for Scouts:
- The Polar Express™ Train Ride - Scout groups are also offered discounts on The Polar Express™ Train Ride during our designated school runs. Check our online schedule for dates.
- Ride & Bike - Many scouts enjoy the chance to ride the train from our Rusk Depot and then bike the 25 miles back to Rusk.
- Shop Tours – Railroad shop tours can be scheduled in advance for your scouts. Please ask a reservation agent for information and costs.
- Camping – The Texas State Railroad offers discounted camping at both depots for scouts. Visit our Campground section or call our campground office for information.

School Groups
We believe that history is an important part of a student’s education! We offer discounted student rates to school groups so that your students can experience history first hand. We also offer curriculum so that you can teach your students about railroading history, trains, train safety, and more!
If you need a certain type of curriculum for your class, give us a call and we can help you figure out what you need for your class.
- Designated School Rides – These rides are set-up in spring and fall just for schools! They leave at 11:00 am and return at 12:30 pm. If your whole school would like to schedule a trip, additional trips can be added.
- One-Way School Rides – A school or class can ride one-way on our regular train excursions. Your school bus can take you to one of our depots and then pick you up at our other depot.
- Round Trip Excursion – Want to give your class a full day of trains? Take them on our round-trip train excursion.
- The Polar Express™ Train Ride – We now offer The Polar Express™ Train Ride to schools! We have designated dates available for your students. Enjoy the magic our this special licensed event.

Train Charters
Did you know that you can charter the train? That’s right! We can help you create the perfect event for your large or small group. What is charter? Well, it is an option to reserve the train for your special event – no other passengers will be on board your train! There are different options available when chartering the train. Chartering the train is perfect for company parties, fundraisers, private events such as weddings, dinners, school reunions, and filming.
Ask our reservation office about chartering the train today! We can even help you with a caterer!
